Problem with Global pre-paid calling card

I bought a global international calling card to talk to my family abroad and got cut off during the conversation. When I made the call, I had £3.50 left but when we got cut off, I was promted that I had £3.00 now remaining. I waited like 3 mins before I call again but I got a message saying that I do not have sufficient funds to make that call. So I just lost £3, isn't that a rip off?

Unfortunately global calling cards are not what they used to be. A long time ago you used to get good value for money but nowadays you will be lucky if you can get your money's worth. These cards have a connection charge also the longer you have it the less credit you have as each day your balance decreases. It would be cheaper and in most cases free to use web messaging or Skype as an alternative

The Global calling card that you've used is from the company Lycatel (Lycatalk) and they have gone worst over the years. I experienced a similar problem a while back and I had to contact their customer support as they were ripping me off my credit as well. The total minutes that you are greeted with when you dial for the first time is basically a package comprising of the minutes you can talk, the service charge, the maintenance charge and the connection charge. So really, you would get a lot less than what the minutes are saying.

If you don't use all your minutes the first time, then you'll be paying them a maintenance charge each day and that will eat up your funds quickly. On top of that, they do not deduct the maintenance, service and connection charge straight away, which gives you a really bad indication of how many true minutes you have left. So you could have just £1 remaining but the system says you have £3 because the charges/fees have not been applied to your card yet.

You're better off using messenger or skype to call friends or family abroad to be honest.
